Brain Injury Success

Our Favorite Books

For us, reading is an essential component of a successful recovery from a brain injury. We read for a variety of reasons: comfort, inspiration, wisdom, and advice. As we read, we’re part of a community of survivors and caregivers, exchanging information through the printed word. We read, not because we like to dwell on the negatives of Jessica's brain injury, but because we believe that recovery never stops. We read to be encouraged and better informed in this continuing recovery.

Our reading list includes

Virtually all books on brain injury offer some helpful insights and useful information. But finding the books that are right for you can be overwhelming: there are so many—in bookstores, on the Internet, and from brain injury organizations.

We’ve read many of the books currently available. They vary considerably in the quality of their writing, the relevance and interest of the stories they tell, and the value and quantity of the information and advice they offer.

Below, we offer short reviews of our favorite books. Each review contains just enough information to allow you to find the books that are best for you. If you’re interested in reading more about brain injury, we hope we’ve made selecting your next book much easier.

There are still many books we’ve not yet read. If you’d like to add a book to our reading pile—for possible mention in this space—please let us know.

Finally, please bear in mind that there is a very subjective element to appreciating a book. Jessica and I have different opinions about more than a few of the books we’ve reviewed. A book that moves and educates us may be of little interest or benefit to you. Correspondingly, one of your favorite books may not make our list. Personal tastes vary and we all have different perspectives on the complex and ever changing world of brain injury.

The Reviews

When you’ve finished these books, come back for more. Periodically, we’ll add new books to the list.
